We moved to Mazomanie, Wi in October 2011, and started cooking out of an incubator kitchen that November. With 5 members referred from old clients, we started delivering to the Madison Area. April 2012 found us moving into a brand new kitchen adjacent to our new home. Our membership has grown since that first November, our family has grown (Tilia joined us in 2014) and our love of Wisconsin has grown. We are so happy to be here.
We moved to Urbana, Illinois in 2002 and worked in the community as a graduate student and an environmental educator. We also served as members of numerous committees, civic volunteers, the Common Ground Food Co-op Board, as workshop educators, and local foods advocates. In October of 2007 we founded our first CSK - The Food Nanny - at the behest of a community member who needed well prepared, healthy food delivered to her family, and convinced us others do also.
Our membership grew from 4 to 54 and the limitations of our in-home professional kitchen, as well as our nascent family lead us to consider new locale. In January of 2011 we decided it was time to move. With the help of a local incubator kitchen we started the 608 Community supported kitchen in November 2011 and business took off.
Ben has a BA in Geology and a MA in Crop Sciences. Despite this education he has managed to commit nearly 20 years to professional cooking. His cuisine is eclectic but classic and he considers himself very fortunate for having had the opportunity to learn from such skilled and talented mentors and colleagues. Also, having done both, he knows the only job harder than cooking is farming.
Kate grew up in Waukesha and attended Edgewood College, but had to leave in 1999 due to graduation with an Environmental Biology degree in hand. After 9 years in the Environmental Education field, overseeing gardening programs and enjoying the outdoors with kids of all ages, she left full time employment for the joys of self employment.
